It includes all the income earned by a nation’s residents regardless of the location, thus, a major difference between GNP and Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is that GNP includes the income earned by a country’s residents through overseas investments and other activities outside of the country.

In simple terms, GNP is a measure of the economic power of a nation. It is used by economists, policymakers and investors to assess the overall health and growth of an economy. A higher GNP implies that the economy is stronger and more productive, thus indicating higher levels of prosperity for the people of that country.
