Metals that are attracted to magnetism are known as ferromagnetic metals. These include iron (Fe), nickel (Ni), cobalt (Co), gadolinium (Gd), dysprosium (Dy), and neodymium (Nd).

Ferromagnetic metals have certain properties that make them attracted to magnets. One of these properties is their alignment of spins of electrons, which creates a magnetic field. When placed in an external magnetic field, these aligned spins cause the ferromagnetic metal to be attracted to the magnetic field.
