For example, the cyclic aldehyde with a five carbon ring and an aldehyde group attached to the first carbon and a methyl group attached to the fourth carbon would be named pentanal.
If there are multiple substituents present on the ring, the substituents are listed in alphabetical order. For example, the cyclic aldehyde with a six carbon ring, an aldehyde group attached to the first carbon, a methyl group attached to the third carbon, and a bromine atom attached to the fifth carbon would be named 3-bromo-5-methylcyclohexanal.
