A chromosome is a structure within the nucleus of a cell that carries genetic information in the form of genes. It consists of a long strand of DNA wrapped around proteins called histones. Each chromosome contains thousands of genes that determine an individual’s inherited traits, such as hair color, eye color, and height. Chromosomes are crucial for cell division and reproduction, as they ensure that each daughter cell receives a complete set of genetic information during mitosis and meiosis.
