What is SNMP?

SNMP allows administrators to monitor the health and performance of these devices by collecting and transmitting data from them to a management station.

SNMP works through a hierarchical structure where network devices are organized into a management information base (MIB). Each MIB contains a set of objects that represent different aspects of a network device such as network interfaces, system uptime, and CPU usage. SNMP agents, which are software modules installed on network devices, collect data from these objects and make it available to a management station through SNMP requests.

SNMP is widely used by network administrators because of its simplicity and effectiveness in managing and monitoring large networks. It allows administrators to detect and troubleshoot issues before they become critical, ensuring the smooth operation and availability of network devices.
