In the intrusive process, magma cools and solidifies slowly beneath the Earth’s surface, creating large crystals due to the slower cooling and solidification process. Such rocks are known as plutonic or intrusive igneous rocks. On the other hand, extrusive igneous rocks are formed by the cooling and solidification of lava that flow onto the Earth surface and solidify quickly due to exposure to air and other elements.

Igneous rocks can be classified into several types based on their mineral composition, texture, and the environment in which they formed. Some common examples of igneous rocks include granite and basalt. Granite is an intrusive igneous rock that is formed from felsic (high in silicon and aluminum) magma, whereas basalt is an extrusive igneous rock that is formed from mafic (high in iron and magnesium) lava.

Igneous rocks have numerous uses in different industries. For instance, granite is used as a kitchen countertop and in construction as it is a durable and hard rock. Basalt is also used in construction, road making, and as a component in concrete. Additionally, igneous rocks are of significant importance to geologists and scientists as they provide valuable information about the Earth’s history and the processes that have shaped its landscapes.
