Bromide
Br⁻
Bromide is a chemical compound that contains bromine and may also include other elements. It is commonly used in photography as a sensitizing agent for silver halide emulsions. Bromide is also used in medicine as a mild sedative and anticonvulsant.
Bromide can be found in various forms such as sodium bromide (NaBr), potassium bromide (KBr), and silver bromide (AgBr). Sodium bromide and potassium bromide are soluble in water while silver bromide is insoluble.
Exposure to high levels of bromide can be toxic and cause gastrointestinal, nervous and respiratory system damage. However, the use of bromide has become increasingly regulated to mitigate health risks.
