The light-independent reactions, also known as the Calvin cycle or dark reactions, take place in the stroma of the chloroplasts. In this stage, ATP and NADPH produced in the light-dependent reactions supply the necessary energy and reducing power to convert carbon dioxide (CO2) into glucose. This process is known as carbon fixation.

The Calvin cycle involves a series of enzyme-catalyzed reactions that convert CO2 molecules into organic compounds. The energy provided by ATP and the reducing power of NADPH drive the formation of high-energy intermediates that are further processed to produce glucose.
