Understanding the Three Types of Muscle: Skeletal, Smooth, and Cardiac

what are the three different types of muscle?

smooth, cardiac and skeletal

There are three types of muscle in the human body:

1. Skeletal Muscle: It is also known as striated muscle because of its characteristic stripe-like appearance. Skeletal muscle is attached to bones by tendons and helps to move the body. This type of muscle is under voluntary control, meaning we can consciously contract and relax it.

2. Smooth Muscle: It is found in the walls of internal organs such as the stomach, intestines, and blood vessels. Smooth muscle has a smooth appearance and is not under voluntary control. This type of muscle helps to regulate organ functions such as digestion, blood pressure and breathing.

3. Cardiac Muscle: It is found in the walls of the heart and is responsible for pumping blood throughout the body. Cardiac muscle has a striated appearance like skeletal muscle, but is not under voluntary control. It contracts rhythmically to regulate the heartbeat.
