In the case of dominant traits, homozygosity means that the trait will always be expressed because both genes code for the same dominant trait. However, in the case of recessive traits, homozygosity is required for the recessive trait to be expressed, as only two copies of the recessive allele can fully express the trait. Consequently, an organism that is heterozygous (Aa) for a recessive trait may not express the phenotype, while an organism that is homozygous recessive (aa) will always exhibit the trait.
