There are various types of albinism, such as Oculocutaneous albinism (OCA) and X-linked ocular albinism (XOA). OCA affects the eyes, skin, and hair, while XOA affects only the eyes. People with albinism often have fair skin, white or light-colored hair, and vision problems, such as poor eyesight, nystagmus (involuntary eye movements), and photophobia (sensitivity to light).

There is no cure for albinism, but people with this condition can take steps to manage their symptoms and protect their skin and eyes from the sun’s harmful rays. Some treatments include wearing sun-protective clothing, applying sunscreen, and using polarized sunglasses to reduce glare. Additionally, vision aids such as prescription glasses or contact lenses can help improve eyesight to some extent.

People with albinism may face social and emotional challenges due to stigma and discrimination, especially in societies where fair skin is fetishized or considered a beauty ideal. Therefore, providing education and awareness about the condition is essential to promote understanding and inclusion.
