When food containing fat enters the small intestine, the gallbladder contracts and releases bile through the common bile duct, which connects the gallbladder to the small intestine. Once in the small intestine, bile helps to break down fat into smaller pieces so that it can be easily absorbed by the body.

However, the gallbladder can sometimes develop problems, such as gallstones or inflammation, which can cause pain, nausea, and other digestive symptoms. In severe cases, surgical removal of the gallbladder may be necessary.

To maintain the health of the gallbladder, it is important to eat a balanced diet low in saturated and trans fats, and high in fiber. Regular exercise and maintaining a healthy weight can also help prevent gallbladder problems.
