2. Test divisibility by increasing numbers starting from 2. If the number is divisible by the tested number, it is a factor. Repeat this until you reach the square root of the number. For example, to find the factors of 12, you start by dividing it by 2. As it is divisible, 2 is a factor. Continuing the process, you divide the quotient (6) by 2 again and get another factor which is 2. Finally, you divide the remaining quotient (3) by the next number (3) and find that 3 is also a factor. At this point, you have covered all possible divisors up to the square root of 12, which is 3.

It is worth noting that every number has at least two factors: 1 and itself. In addition, the number of factors is finite for every positive integer.

Understanding factors is essential in various areas of mathematics, such as prime factorization, finding common factors, simplifying fractions, and solving equations.
