Mastering Math: Understanding the Geometry and Calculations of a Square

Square

A parallelogram with four congruent sides and four right angles.

A square is a two-dimensional geometrical figure that has four equal sides and four right angles. It is a special type of rectangle where both the length and the width are equal. In mathematical terms, a square can be defined as a quadrilateral with sides of equal length and internal angles of 90 degrees each.

The area of a square can be calculated by multiplying any of its sides by itself or by raising the length of one side to the power of two (s²), while its perimeter, which is the total length of all four sides, can be obtained by multiplying the length of one side by 4 (4s).

Squares are used in many applications, such as in architecture, engineering, and mathematics. They are also commonly found in puzzles and games. Some examples of objects that are square-shaped include tiles, windows, and TV screens.
