Childe Hassam was an American Impressionist artist known for his colorful and light-filled urban landscapes and seascapes. His full name was Frederick Childe Hassam and he was born in 1859 in Boston, Massachusetts, where he spent most of his life.

Hassam first became interested in art as a child and began studying at the Boston Art Club in his teens. He went to Paris in 1886 to further his training and was greatly influenced by the Impressionist painters he met there. He returned to the United States two years later and continued to paint in a similar style, with a focus on capturing the effects of light and atmosphere.

Hassam was particularly interested in domestic scenes, urban landscapes, and maritime scenes, and his work often depicts everyday life in America during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He was a prolific artist, producing hundreds of works over the course of his long career.

Hassam was a member of several important artist societies, including the American Watercolor Society and the National Academy of Design, and his work was widely exhibited and appreciated during his lifetime. Today, his paintings can be found in many major art museums and private collections around the world.
