Cells carry out various functions necessary for life. They can reproduce by dividing into two daughter cells through a process called cell division. They can also obtain energy by breaking down nutrients through cellular respiration or photosynthesis, depending on the type of cell. Cells are also capable of carrying out specific functions within organisms, such as creating tissues and organs.
