In translation, the mRNA is read by ribosomes, which are specialized structures in the cell that assemble proteins. Transfer RNA (tRNA) molecules bring amino acids to the ribosome based on the mRNA code, linking them together to form a protein chain. The order and sequence of the amino acids determine the structure and function of the resulting protein.

Mutations can occur in genes, leading to changes in the genetic code. Some mutations can be beneficial, allowing for adaptation and evolution, while others can be detrimental, causing genetic disorders or diseases. Mutations can be caused by environmental factors (such as radiation or chemical exposure) or errors during DNA replication.

Understanding genes and how they function is crucial in many scientific fields, including genetics, molecular biology, and biotechnology. It helps scientists explore the genetic basis of diseases, develop new treatments, and create genetically modified organisms to benefit society.
