What is the common name of the Protozoa Ciliophora?Mode of motility?
CiliatesCilia
The common name of the Protozoa Ciliophora is ciliates. Ciliates move by means of hair-like structures known as cilia that cover their body surface. These cilia are used for locomotion and also for feeding. The synchronous and coordinated beating of cilia propels the ciliate through the water in a characteristic zig-zag pattern. In addition to their motility, ciliates are also characterized by having a well-developed oral apparatus (mouth region), specialized organelles for discharging excess water (contractile vacuoles) and a large nucleus containing multiple copies of the genome.
