Magnet
something made of iron or steel that is attracted to substances made of a magnetic material
A magnet is an object that produces a magnetic field, a force that can attract or repel certain materials, such as iron and steel.
Magnets have two poles – north and south. Like poles repel each other while opposite poles attract each other. This is due to the alignment of electrons within the magnet that create a magnetic field.
There are various types of magnets, including permanent magnets (retains magnetic properties over time), electromagnets (only magnetizes when an electric current passes through it) and temporary magnets (only become magnetic when in the presence of a strong magnetic field).
Magnets have various uses, such as in electric motors and generators, MRI machines, credit card strips, compasses, and speaker systems. They also have practical applications in industry, energy production and medicine.
