A nanosuspension is defined as a drug formulation in which the drug particles are dispersed at the nanoscale level in a suitable liquid medium with the aid of a stabilizer. In other words, it is a type of colloidal dispersion in which the drug particles have a size in the range of 1-1000 nanometers.
The small size of the drug particles in nanosuspensions leads to a large surface area, which results in the improved dissolution and bioavailability of the drug. The use of stabilizers prevents agglomeration and/or sedimentation of drug particles, resulting in a stable dispersion.
Nanosuspensions are widely used in the pharmaceutical industry as a drug delivery system for poorly soluble drugs. They offer several advantages, including improved therapeutic efficacy, reduced toxicity, and enhanced patient compliance.
