1. Contact transmission: This mode of transmission occurs when an infected person or object comes into direct contact with an uninfected person. This can happen through touch, kissing, sexual contact, or the sharing of personal items such as towels, razors, or needles. Pathogens that can be transmitted through contact include viruses like influenza and herpes, bacteria like MRSA and E. coli, and fungi like ringworm.

2. Airborne transmission: This mode of transmission occurs when pathogens are suspended in the air and can be breathed in by an uninfected person. This can happen through coughing, sneezing, or talking. Pathogens that can be transmitted through airborne transmission include viruses like measles and chickenpox, bacteria like tuberculosis (TB), and fungi like aspergillosis.

3. Vector-borne transmission: This mode of transmission occurs when pathogens are transmitted to humans through the bite of a vector, such as a mosquito, tick, or flea. Pathogens that can be transmitted through vector-borne transmission include viruses like West Nile virus and Zika virus, bacteria like Lyme disease, and parasites like malaria.

4. Food and waterborne transmission: This mode of transmission occurs when pathogens are ingested through contaminated food or water. Pathogens that can be transmitted through food and waterborne transmission include bacteria like Salmonella and E. coli, viruses like norovirus and hepatitis A, and parasites like giardia and cryptosporidium.
