5. Combine the names: Start with the number of the aldehyde carbon, then add the name of the parent ring with the suffix “-al” for the aldehyde group.
For example, the cyclic aldehyde with six carbon atoms and an aldehyde group attached to the first carbon is called cyclohexanecarbaldehyde.
Note: If there are multiple aldehyde groups in the ring, the suffix will be “-di-al” for two, “-tri-al” for three, and so on.
