Amber is fossilized tree resin, and often when an organism becomes trapped in the sticky resin, it is quickly covered by more layers of resin, preventing decomposition and providing a stable environment for the organism to be preserved in.

As a result, when we find amber fossils, we often find that they contain all or part of the original organism. For example, we might find an insect trapped in amber that still has its wings, antennae, and body intact.
