What are the official duties of the Vice President?

Serves as President of the Senate, opens and counts electoral votes, and serves as President if the President cannot carry out their duties.

As per the United States Constitution, the Vice President is the second in command to the President and has the following official duties:

1. President of the Senate: The Vice President is the President of the Senate and presides over the proceedings of the Senate. In this role, the Vice President has no vote in the Senate but can cast a tie-breaking vote in case of a tie.

2. Presidential Succession: The Vice President is also the first in line of presidential succession, meaning that in case of the President’s death, resignation, or removal from office, the Vice President assumes the presidency.

3. Presidential Advisor: The Vice President works closely with the President and serves as an advisor, providing advice and counsel on various matters of national importance.

4. Diplomatic Missions: The Vice President also represents the United States on various diplomatic missions and attends meetings and events on behalf of the President.

5. Promoting the Administration’s Policies: The Vice President also assists the President in the promotion and implementation of the administration’s policies and programs.

In addition to the above official duties, the Vice President may also be assigned other tasks by the President, depending on the needs of the administration.
