Parallelogram
Opposite sides are congruent
A parallelogram is a four-sided figure with straight sides where the parallel opposite sides are congruent in length. It is a special type of quadrilateral where the opposite sides are parallel to each other.
Properties of a parallelogram:
– Opposite sides are congruent and parallel.
– Opposite angles are congruent.
– Consecutive angles are supplementary (add up to 180 degrees).
– Diagonals bisect each other, meaning they divide each other into equal halves.
Types of parallelograms:
– Rectangle: A parallelogram with all four angles measuring 90 degrees.
– Rhombus: A parallelogram with all sides congruent in length.
– Square: A parallelogram with all four angles measuring 90 degrees and all sides are congruent in length.
In order to find the perimeter of a parallelogram, you simply add up the lengths of all four sides. Perimeter = 2×(base+side).
In order to find the area of a parallelogram, you multiply the base (the length of one of the parallel sides) by the height (the perpendicular distance between the base and the opposite side). Area = base x height.
