In geometry, a line is infinitely long and contains infinitely many points. A line segment, on the other hand, has a specific length that can be measured and has two endpoints that mark its boundaries. In other words, it is a two-dimensional object that is defined by its two endpoints.

For example, in the coordinate plane, a line segment can be represented by two points [x1, y1] and [x2, y2]. The distance between the two endpoints of the line segment is the length of the line segment and can be found using the distance formula.

Line segments have many applications in geometry and real-life situations. They are used to measure distances, define geometric shapes, and in many applications such as designing buildings, roads and bridges and also in computer graphics and 3D modelling of objects.
