Interior angles Chapter 5 (p. 225)
Angles of a polygon
A polygon is a closed figure that has three or more sides. The sum of interior angles in a polygon depends upon the number of sides it has. To find the sum of interior angles in a polygon, we use the following formula:
Sum of interior angles = (n – 2) x 180 degrees
where n is the number of sides of the polygon.
Let’s take an example to understand this concept better. Suppose we have a pentagon (a polygon with 5 sides), and we want to find the sum of interior angles of this pentagon. Using the formula, we have:
Sum of interior angles = (5 – 2) x 180 degrees
= 3 x 180 degrees
= 540 degrees
So, the sum of interior angles of a pentagon is 540 degrees.
Similarly, we can find the sum of interior angles in any polygon by using the above formula.
