For example, if we have two triangles, ABC and DEF, and we can show that side AB is equal in length to side DE, side BC is equal in length to side EF, and side AC is equal in length to side DF, as well as corresponding angles being equal, then we can say that triangle ABC is congruent to triangle DEF, and write it as ΔABC ≅ ΔDEF.

Congruence is important because it enables us to prove and justify mathematical statements and solve various geometric problems. By knowing that two shapes are congruent, we can use properties of one shape to infer properties of the other shape with confidence.

It is worth noting that congruence applies to all types of shapes, including polygons, circles, and three-dimensional objects like cubes and spheres.
